EASON HOUSE

Eason House offers a refreshing, modest and sustainable reconfiguration to a single storey corner unit terraced house. Through a series of legal expansion, the existing narrow house has fundamentally shifted into a spacious and bright living space. Using mostly louver windows, the house interior is well ventilated with ample of natural lighting. The extension was done in harmony with the existing form. Although the expansions were maximized, the forms were modestly kept with careful layering and protrusions of roof & wall planes. From the elevation, the existing and new roofs blended in harmoniously with rhythmic pattern. With the existing high ceiling, a loft was created as a study place overlooking the street. The opening was positioned to receive large amount of diffuse sunlight during the day. The windows were recessed in to enable more shades from the roof overhang. Although the extension was done to maximize the allowable area, the house is still appeared minimalist and humble within the neighbourhood. The feature wall is the only dynamism of the house that symbolizes the young owner’s aim to create a sense of belonging to this monotonous terraced neighbourhood.
